Light detection and ranging

LIDAR (light detection and ranging) is an optical remote sensing technology that measures properties of scattered light to find range or other information of a distant target. The range to an object is measured through transition of a pulse and then to the detected reflection of signal. The military uses this technique. The above picture is of an urban area.
