This is an aerial photograph and they are used for remote sensing. Aerial photography is a good example of passive remote sensing.

planetable surveying
Planetable surveying is a part of the USGS mapping technique. Cartographers climb a vantage point and plot the areas that can be seen and measured in the field http://photographicplanetablesurveying.com/

unclassed choropleth map
An Unclassed Choropleth map is a map that doesn't have to classify the data displayed by using colors in proportion to the values of data. This map is based on the fertiity rates of Europe.

standardized choropleth map
Standarized choropleth maps gather information about a specific topic and its a type of thematic mapping that uses color to display the areas of information that they are talking about by using ranges and graduated color. They are also to interpret and understand. This image of a choropleth map lacks clearly being able to read because its taken from the air, but you can see the different colors that represent the type of land.

classed choropleth map
These are popular thematic maps because people understand them. A Classed Choropleth map is a map that classifies data. Colors are used to show the range of statistics of the variables. This classed choropleth map displays the homocide rate and compares the numbers through out the United States. The colors represent the numbers of deaths.

unstandardized choropleth maps
An Unstandardized Choropleth map is a map that have data plotted and presented in numerical values (raw values). Sometimes they will just give population numbers and not take into account the amount of land that those people are spread out on.

Acumulative line graph
An Accumulative Line Graph (Lorenz Curve) is a graph that shows the inequality, usually in wealth or size. This map shows the total defects of an object.

Nominal area choropleth map
Nominal Area Choropleth map is a map that classifies data into groups in no particular order they display information based on divisions that are already set, such as county lines. This map is displayed with color to show the information in the different areas of what they represent. In this particular case they stand for different types of metals and carbons.

Bilateral graph
A Bilateral graph is one that has two different variables graphed together. They display values above and below a zero mark. A bilateral graph shows both positive and negative data. This bilateral graph displays the the United States trade with China.

range graded proportional circle map
A range graded proportional circle map is a proportional circle map where the circles size is dependent on the size of the range it is providing information for. This is a Menard graduated circle map. A Range Graded Proportional Circle Map also map that uses circles based on their size to correlate directly to the quantity for that data given in the symbol key.

similarity matrix
Similarity matrix is a comparison between two different sets of data points and is shown in a matrix. When the colors are more different that means that the two points have a greater difference.

parallel coordinate graph
Parallel Coordinate graphs are used often to find the relationship between variables. Often shows data in more than 2-dimensions. This is a high linear correlation in parallel coordinate graphs and all of the lines correspond to one another.

triangular plot
A triangular plot are plots that have three variables on each side of the triangle with add up to a constant. The triangular plot is most often used in geologic studies to show the relative compositions of soils and rocks, but it can be more generally applied to any system of three variables.

histogram
A histogram is a graph of information that uses rectangular blocks to show the frequency of data in numerical intervals of equal size. This histogram is displays the frequency and it is simple to represent the information.

stem and leaf plot
Stem and leaf plots are is a method for showing how many times a certain value occurs.

star plot
Star plots allow you to compare different types of data for various experiments or design and they are a graphical way to display data in a 2-Dimensional chart. The radius of the star or design represents different characteristics. This particular star plot is a plot of MER IDD and other various designs. The different designs are compared in different categories, including mass, time (task completion), trajectory completion, collision, accuracy, link deflection, and actuator saturation.

Index value plot
Index value plot is a graph that plots changing variables against an index value. In this particular visualization, the average stream flow index is plotted based upon particular days of the week. The number value of comparison is 4. This data was collected in North Carolina and ranged from mid February to the end of March.

Box plot
Box plots are used to examine one or more sets of data. It is graphically depicting groups of numerical data through five different quadrants. The image below shows two related boxplots on the same scale. The lower plot, "total", shows a simple boxplot with no outliers and the upper graph, "total adj", shows a set which includes an outlier.

Scatterplot
Scatter plots are mathematical diagrams that show the diagram for two different variables and one is on the X axis and the other is on the Y axis and they are usually drawn to send the trends between the two variables. This scatter plot represents the linear relationship between the two variables indicating the regression model.
